This week we learn about the value of meritorious deeds. We first read from a sutta in the Itivuttaka. In it, the Buddha shares memories of past lives. Giving (being generous), self-mastery (through meditation), and refraining (meaning ethical conduct), are meritorious deeds which lead to positive experiences in the future. Then we read from the Punnakiriyavatthusutta in the Anguttara Sikaya. It expounds on the causal connection between good deeds and a happy future. We’re reading from John D. Ireland’s and Bhante Sujato’s translations on suttacentral.net:

Punnakiriyavatthusutta (AN 8.36) https://suttacentral.net/an8.36/en/sujato
Last but not least we read a section from Bhikkhu Bodhi’s book In the Buddha’s Words. It explains in a little more detail what we read in the above suttas.
